Fitting Instructions

Standard Fitting Instructions For Cartridge

Caution

  1. Remove only one strut assembly from the car at a time.
  2. Place all the mounting parts on one side in the exact order as they are removed, so that you can reassemble all these parts later in the reverse order.
  3. When tightening the locking nut (1) and the top piston rod nut (2), be very careful that the wrench does not touch and damage the piston rod (3), as damage to this rod will cause oil leakage of the unit.
  4. Nuts and bolts must also be tightened to the specified torque as recommended by the car manufacturer. All other nuts and bolts must be secured.
  5. If necessary, bleed the air from the breaking system. Ensure the brake-fluid reservoir is refilled to the correct level.

Dismantling

  1. Mark the position of the upper bearing plate (4) so that it can be re-assembled in the same position.
  2. The coil spring (5) must be compressed be a suitable spring compressor before the strut assembly can be dismantled.
  3. Remove only the necessary lower mounting bolts (6). In some cases, steering arms or ball joints or both must be disconnected from the strut assembly.
  4. Unscrew the remaining upper bearing plate nuts (7) and then remove the strut assembly from the car. In some cases brake drum and calliper must be supported while the strut is removed.
  5. After checking coil spring (5) has been compressed, remove the top piston rod nut (2) and all the mounting parts.
  6. Unscrew the locking ring (9) from the strut assembly. All internal parts can be removed and discarded.
  7. Turn strut upside down to remove all the old oil.

Installation

  1. Insert the KYB replacement cartridge (8) and when the enclosed spacer/collar (10) is required it must be mounted on the side of the cartridge as illustrated.
  2. Insert the enclosed locking ring (1) and screw tight (alternatively use the original ring(9)).
  3. Reassemble all the remaining mounting parts in the correct order and ensure that they are all tightened and secure.
  4. Remount the strut assembly on the car reversing the procedure for dismantling.
  5. Make sure that the upper bearing plate (4) is positioned in the original marked position.
