Using the correct tools can dramatically speed up the time it takes to change shock absorbers.

Kayaba recommend Klann Tools, because they can be used to replace cartridges without removing the full Macpherson strut. To see what products are available from Klann, click here.

Some Volkswagen models have a removable spring seat, which can be reused. However, if the spring seat is damaged or unable to be reused – supply KYB part number SP001 to replace the old spring seat.

On the Audi A4 the cross link bolt may be seized. Use extreme care when removing this bolt.

Always fit shock absorbers in pairs - why not change the coil springs at the same time?

When fitting new shock absorbers always fully prime before installation – fully extend and compress the unit 3 times to remove air pockets inside the shock.

Never use an air wrench to install shock absorbers – you risk over tightening which can damage mounting parts.

Never use grips to hold a piston rod – a scratched piston rod will cause oil to leak through the seal.

Always ensure the vehicle is back on all its wheels before tightening upper mountings, and always use a torque wrench.
