KYB Continues Strong Growth In Europe

KYB CONTINUES STRONG GROWTH AND INVESTMENT IN EUROPE

KYB Corporation has opened a new factory in Spain. KYB Advanced Manufacturing Spain (KAMS) is based at Los Arcos, near to Pamplona.

The KAMS project was approved in June 2008 and the first production line testing began in August 2009. Full production commenced four months later with the first deliveries made to PSA and Audi.  The production capacity is currently 1 million shock absorbers, with 70 employees and plans to increase to 140 by 2013.

Supported by local investment, the cost for purchasing the land, building the factory and setting up the production lines was over €20m.  Hajime Sato, President of KYB Europe, commented “This investment at a time of global financial cut backs demonstrates KYB’s continuing commitment to maintaining our position as the world’s largest OE supplier of shock absorbers, and to the expansion of our business in Europe”.

KYB now has three shock absorber factories based in Europe, with a combined annual production capacity of up to 20 million shock absorbers, and with 800 employees.

KAMS also brings to KYB an exciting new OE development with the supply of front and rear OE shock absorbers to BMW for the new 5 Series.  This is the first OE project between KYB and BMW.

Although known as a global leader in OE and aftermarket shock absorber manufacturing, KYB also supplies other suspension components to the aftermarket, including coil springs, suspension mounting kits and protection kits.
